What is a vHIT test?
A vHIT (Video Head Impulse Test) is a quick and non-invasive test used to evaluate how well the inner ear balance system and eye reflexes are functioning. It specifically checks the vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR), which helps keep your vision stable when your head moves.
Why is a vHIT test done?
A vHIT test is done to identify problems in the balance system, especially when a person experiences dizziness, vertigo, or imbalance. It helps determine if the issue is related to the inner ear.
Who needs a vHIT test?
This test is recommended for individuals who have symptoms such as sudden vertigo, unsteadiness, blurred vision during head movement, or suspected vestibular disorders.
How is a vHIT test performed?
You will wear lightweight goggles with a built-in camera that tracks your eye movements. A clinician will gently and quickly move your head in small, controlled directions while you focus on a fixed point. The system records how your eyes respond to these movements.
What do the results mean?
The results show how well your vestibulo-ocular reflex is working. Abnormal results may indicate weakness or dysfunction in one or more parts of the inner ear balance system.
